BC/Yukon Command of The Royal Canadian Legion entered into a partnership with the Professional Photographers’ Association of B.C. Lower Mainland Region (PPABC-LMR) who donate their time and expertise to create photographic portraits of Second World War veterans.
The initiative commenced in October 2006 throughout the Lower Mainland, as veterans of the Second World War gathered at Legion Branches to have their portraits taken by professional, accredited members of PPABC-LMR.
Each veteran receives a portrait, free of charge. A second portrait is donated to the participating Legion Branch, contributing to a visual legacy. BC/Yukon Command will also receive a full set of the portraits which will be maintained to preserve the memory of these revered Canadian men and women.
The initiative will be expanded throughout the Province during 2008. This is a monumental volunteer effort, offered by the Professional Photographers’ Association of British Columbia. This organization wanted to express their gratitude to veterans and their families for all that Canadians enjoy living in a free and democratic society.
The visual impact of these professional portraits cannot be described aptly in words.
BC/Yukon Command and the Professional Photographer's Association of British Columbia (Lower Mainland) extend gratitude to singer/songwriter, Bob Seger for his gracious permission to incorporate his poignant song, "Like A Rock" as the background score for the audio/visual presentation.
Pride, Honour, Respect....Canadian!
